Mrs McCoy's Class - All aboard!

13th Mar 2023

We had an amazing day today! Aidan daddy Aidan who is a bus driver came to tell us about his job.  He explained about how he had to train to drive a bus as it is much bigger than a car.  He has a uniform which lets us know he works for Translink.  We talked about where we have been on the buses and Aidan's daddy explained that each bus route has a special number and when we go to the bus station or bus stop we can check the number to make sure we are on the correct bus.

We looked at the colour of the bus - which was blue and white then decided to use the blue and white dolphin bin as out bus stop.  We queued carefully to  step onto the bus - then we took some money from the purse to buy our ticket and we had to ask if we could go to Belfast, Newry, Newcastle or Dundrum.  Once we had a ticket we sat in our seats downstairs and put on our seat belts to keep us safe.

Once everyone was on board we sang the 'Wheel on the Bus' and found out about the bell being attached to a sign that lets people know the bus is stopping.  If the bus is busy and there are no seat we can hold onto a handgrip to help us balance.  There is a screen at the bottom of the stairs that we can check if there is any space upstairs.

As there was plenty of room we carefully climbed the stair to the top deck and as it was a double deck we could see all over Downpatrick and over the top of the school.

It was very exciting and Aidan's daddy gave us a surprise from Translink - a sticker, colouring sheet and a bus money box - so we can save some money if we go to Newcastle on the bus to buy an ice cream.

Thank you Aidan and Daddy Aidan for a great day.
