Block Painting Wednesday
Do you remember a few weeks ago we learnt about an artist called Kandinsky who liked using circles - well today we are going to learn about another artist who worked with him called Paul Klee - he liked to use squares, rectangles and circles. One of his most famous pieces of work was called Castle and Sun. The stylish images are created out of different geometric shapes and various shades of colour. The lone sun shines in the ingeniously designed sky created by strong lines and structure.
Mrs McCoy & Mrs O'Reilly have created a video to show you how they created their own pieces of art.
Why don't you have a shape day - explore around your house what shapes can you find?
For lunch can you make square, rectangle or triangle sandwiches? Can you spread the butter on yourselves and select your own filling?
Today's story is Elmer & the Wind. After the story why not check the webcam at Dublin Zoo to see if you can see the elephants. https://www.dublinzoo.ie/animals/animal-webcams/elephants/

Lots of the children know about the game Minecraft so why not start the day with some Cosmic Yoga - Minecraft - link in the Home Learning - Keeping Active
If you want a bit more information:
Karen explains about the different shapes in the painting. The children might enjoy watch her identifying the different shapes - you can use blocks or pieces of paper yet she shows us how she is going to draw around shapes.
Paul Klee 18 December 1879 – 29 June 1940) was a Swiss-born German artist. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. Klee was a natural draftsman who experimented with and eventually deeply explored color theory, writing about it extensively; his lectures Writings on Form and Design Theory (Schriften zur Form und Gestaltungslehre), published in English as the Paul Klee Notebooks, are held to be as important for modern art as Leonardo da Vinci's A Treatise on Painting for the Renaissance.[1][2][3] He and his colleague, Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, both taught at the Bauhaus school of art, design and architecture in Germany. His works reflect his dry humour and his sometimes childlike perspective, his personal moods and beliefs, and his musicality.
