Friday Fun

25th Feb 2021

Girls & boys its a lovely sunny Friday and a great day to get outside in the fresh air. We have a few fun activities as its always good to have a messy Friday. If you wrap up and enjoy the garden you can create some chalk art which can easily be washed away in the rain or create your own stick people from the sticks blown down by the wind on Tuesday.

If you don't fancy going outside just yet an activity the children really enjoy is working with a few bowls, pots, weighing scales and some flour or pasta.  This will keep them busy for hours and yes they may look like Casper the ghost but they are exploring weight, counting in play and developing their hand eye coordination as they transfer the flour or pasta. Even add a little bit of water to the flour to create a simple dough and they can create delicious breads, cakes or pizzas.  Then use items found in the garden to decorate them.

The mighty cardboard box can become a fire engine, castle or a rocket with a few additional wheels and a door can be cut into the box.  Or just decorate the boxes with their crayons or markers as a different type of art canvas.

We have added the Alternative St. Patricks Day guide to the website and you can start practising your recreation of River Dance in the living room.  We normally watch the original showing of River Dance and then the children either take on a dance role or as a musician using the drums.  For years we are always amazed at how much the children enjoy this and quickly pick up the dance.  Another treat is the link to CBeebies of a recording of a local child attending the parade in Downpatrick a few years ago.  You can watch it and see if you can spot anyone you know in the crowd.

Have a lovely weekend and we aim to provide you with a full update at the beginning of the next week following the Executives meeting last night regarding the two week return to face to face teaching from the 8th March.
