Pharmacy Visit

29th Mar 2023

As part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ theme this month the boys and girls in Mrs McCoy’s class had a visit from Erin’s mummy today. The children listened as Rebecca and her trusty assistant Erin talked about working in a pharmacy and the role of a pharmacist in the community. Rebecca showed the children photos of inside her pharmacy where there were lots of little drawers with all of the different types of medication in them. A robot helps the pharmacist to pack and dispense the medicine. We listened as we heard about the different types of medicine that we can get including vitamins, medicine we take with a spoon, tablets, creams and inhalers and Erin told us how she got an injection when she was 3years old. We handled an empty medicine bottle and talked about how no matter how strong we were we couldn’t open it! We talked about how this was to keep children from touching medicines  because only grown-ups are allowed to give it to us. Rebecca thought everyone sat so well and listened carefully so in return for their ’prescription’ Erin dispensed each of her friends a little bag of Haribos! Thank you Rebecca and Erin!
